He’s Alive

March 29, 2013 | My Jottings

“If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said;  if he didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead.”  — Tim Keller

When Michael and I were raising the girls many moons ago, we listened to a lot of contemporary Christian music. Does anyone remember Farrell and Farrell, Randy Stonehill, Petra, Leslie Phillips, Michele Pillar, Keith Green? One of Michael’s favorite artists was Don Francisco, and we had all his albums.

One of Don’s most powerful songs was about the arrest, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, from Peter’s perspective. The song starts out quietly and builds in suspense, and ends in an exultant chorus that Michael used to sing along to every Easter morning. We would all get up and have breakfast before getting ready to go to church, and this song would be playing as loud as we could stand it.

Michael used to walk around the house booming out the words, often with tears in his eyes.

We don’t have record albums anymore, but I do have a CD of Don Francisco’s greatest hits, and “He’s Alive” is on it. I will pull it out on Easter Sunday and play it loud, and I can just see Michael’s response now. He may not be able to boom out the song anymore, but he will sing it with all his might, and I’m fairly certain there will be tears of gratitude still.

Thank you my kind friends for making time in your life to stop by here. I pray that no matter what life looks like to you right now, there will be joy for you this Easter.

He is risen!

I echo what Tauni said in her message – what a wonderful way to begin Good Friday and the Easter weekend. Thank you for all of your terrific and encouraging postings Julie – you are an awesome Christian and an inspiration to us all. Hope you and Michael have a terrific time alone in that cabin you’ll be staying in. Love to you both. Blessings. Love you, Steve

    HE IS RISEN !!!

That song is still as powerful today as it was when it first came out Steve! And your other comments reflect the fact that you haven’t seen me for twenty years, and may not be aware that I truly am not inspirational in any way. That’s not false humility either…my daily struggles are very real and I need God’s mercy many times a day. I hope to be a Christian who truly seems like a Christian, someday before I die. 🙂 Have a blessed Easter, Steve… xxoo

We loved Don Franciscos music, along with some of the others you mentioned. I have some sweet pictures of my two sons when they were about 4 & 5 with their toy guitars singing Randy Stonehill songs. Another of our favorite music artists when our kids were young, was Mary Rice Hopkins.
Have you ever read Keith Greens book NO COMPROMISE? I really enjoyed it.
    I hope you have a very wonderful Easter, Sister-Sister. : )

  8. Just Julie says:

We also had Mary Rice Hopkins’ kids’ music Connie! And a few of her Wendy and Mary albums. I LOVED “No Compromise” and have read it three times I believe. Have a blessed Easter Connie!

  9. Larry says:

I am alive because HE is alive. With the signs that will be seen in the heavenlies in 2014 and 2015 with the two Blood Red Moons, then the full eclips of the Sun in December of 2014 and again the two more Blood Red Moons again happening in 2015, perhaps it will be time. All of this has not happened in this order and has not stated on each year on Jewish Passover like it is going to in 2014 and 2015. I look forward to seeing Him alive, May this Easter be a blessing to all of you

  10. Just Julie says:

I too am thankful for our life in Him Larry…and may your Easter be peaceful and blessed too!

  12. Just Julie says:

I will tell him Dorothy — thank you! We think you are a remarkable person too. Lots of love to you and yours… xxoo
