I cried over this one! I have so many regrets regarding my Grandpa and Grandma Vandeputte. My grandfather was such an interesting guy… he came from Belgium to America when he was 14, all by himself with no money and died a wealthy man. He never really talked to me nor did I seek him out. I had cousins to play with, horses to ride and running to do. He was just an old man who you had to walk by while tearing through their small house. Lately I have regretted this more than ever. I never knew him; I never sat down and talked to him. My grandma would let me pick out which canned fruit we would have with dinner… I always chose the pears because you could suck them off the spoon, strain them through your teeth and savor the sweetness. I taught my siblings how to do this! She also introduced me to the wonderful world of sauerkraut! Yum Yum! We ate it with everything and loved it!
My Dad’s mom was always crabby. There was six kids in my family and I am sure that freaked her out! She smelled like an old lady and that bothered me… you know how I am about smells. Now today I regret I never took her to Disney Land or even the Como Zoo, let alone watched my very best favorite show, The Lawrence Welk Show… Dad said we are related to him somehow…
