September means a beginning of a beautiful change

September means crimson leaves and cool clean breezes

September means no longer having to sleep with just a sheet and a fan blowing on my face and my feet hanging off the bed toward the open window

September means harvest

September means 3 + months until Christmas

September means beautiful sweaters, layering clothes, stylish boots and wearing coats and scarves

September means jumping in a freshly raked pile of leaves

September means acorns and sticks and forest floors carpeted in leaves and orange pine needles.

I love the smell of September!

September means me watching and listening to those moms and kindergartners with smiles and tears of my own.

September means wondering why this life is filled with so many kinds of good-byes.

Come Lord Jesus!

What marvelous pictures you created, Carey. And have you thought you might try writing for a living? LY.

1. Kids back in school…a 6am alarm…hot breakfast by 6:30 and a bag lunch for everyone as they leave the house.
2. An empty house from 7:30am until 3pm.
3. Fall-blooming flowers in the garden…Autumn Joy sedum, purple coneflowers, hydrangea and white garden phlox.
4. Flocks of songbirds at the feeders…all leaving the boreal forests of Canada and heading south for the winter.
5. Beautiful red apples that are made into apple pie, apple crisp, carameled apples and fresh apple cider.
6. A different smell in the forests…wet leaves and rotting vegetation…strong and sweet, but not unpleasant.
7. Hearty soups and stews for dinner…apple or berry pies for dessert.
8. Crisp, chilly mornings…hooded sweatshirts and warm socks!
9. Thousands of golden leaves in my front yard…lots of raking and bagging and raking and bagging!
10. Local Fall Festivals…people coming out in droves for one last time before the temps drop, the days get shorter, the snow begins to fall and winter keeps us inside until Spring arrives again.
