I like Ember's deft tile idea though what I thought initially was why not take it back to the natural brick colour? ~ only of course that may be horrible, which is why it got painted in the first place. Keep us posted.

I agree with the color expert – a rich red would be beautiful. I love red. I once painted an old upright piano with red lacquer. It was gorgeous.

My vote is for a rich red. I think it will marry the granite and the Delft collection better than anything else.

Ohhhh….I hadn’t even thought of Delft tiles!! I have a friend who had that done to her fireplace and it’s stunning. You have just given me a completely new direction to think toward. Thank you!

I will send you a link to the little lights I ordered for over the “bar” or whatever that section of the granite countertop is called.

I like the smell of a wood fire and much prefer it, Ember. I just know what I can add to our lives and what we can’t. We would have to stack wood quite a ways from the front door…I fear I’m getting too lazy. 🙁

Could you re-tile it with Delft tiles maybe? And you are sure about the gas fire? Playing with a real fire and the lovely fragrance . . . somewhere indoors to burn confidential papers and cardboard packaging . . .
Light fittings! We have two that we know we don’t like, but it’s hard to find ones we do. What kind will you be having?
