Yes, Helen Mirren is a gifted actress — I loved her in The Queen. Glad to know I’m not the only one who loves a slow movie, Ganeida. 🙂 xoxo

A very clever actress! I also like slow & naunced ~ drives my action driven kids to there & back again. 😉 On the other hand Cait has been known to persist with unfathomable French movies that are very black & very naunced. French is not one of her languages. It’s mine. Nope. I don’t fathom it either.

Kay, I loved “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” too. I tend to like anything with Judi Dench in it. I know exactly what you mean about the slowness of “Quartet” — it was terribly meandering, and I was disappointed that the four did not at least lip-synch at the end. I have been known to really fall for slow, nuanced films and Michael doesn’t usually care for them at all. One example years ago — we watched a movie with Richard Farnsworth in it (he’s a favorite of mine since he played Matthew Cuthbert in “Anne of Green Gables,” and more than one person has said that my Michael reminds them of Farnsworth/Matthew Cuthbert) called “The Straight Story.” It was just about the slowest, most touching movie you’d ever want to see, and when it was over Michael breathed a sigh of relief and said it was supremely boring, and I wiped a tear and said it was one of the sweetest movies I’d ever seen. Haha!

Both on Amazon and play.com it costs over £30 to import it!! 🙁 But keep the recommendations coming Julie, there might be some available world-wide at a reasonable price. 🙂

There’s so little worth watching on T.V. and with the days getting shorter, a good film will be just the thing for a cosy evening in.
We’ve also watched ‘Quartet’ but we didn’t enjoy it at all. In fact we were quite disappointed. It wasn’t so much the bad language, we just felt the story took too long to get going. However, we have watched ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ and enjoyed that very much. I’d read the book previously at my book club and although the film deviated from the book in quite a few ways, I still found the film funny and interesting. Also, all the scenes of a hot, dusty, tired but glorious and colourful India were amazing.
