For those who don’t know, Hassler is a Minnesotan most notably known for his “Staggerford” series. I love his writing style, very raw…his descriptions of people and places so detailed I am sure that I have either met the character or visited the location. The story of The Love Hunter was one that has stuck with me like an inner ache…In a good way, I think.

I read your blog and that of the Yarnista; I think you are both wonderful ladies with great wit and find your observations on life delightful and charming. Since I am one of the Yarnista’s yarny minions I typically read books about knitting in general and socks in particular. And really whats not to like about that. The next book I would like to read is the 2010 Three Irish Girls Spring Look Book; can you help me out with that?

Please be careful with the dead critters….I wouldn’t want anything to happen to the Yarnista’s Mama. I would be happy to send a care package from upstate NY. Is there something special that you might enjoy?

Patty

This book is centered around young Liesel Meminger and her experiences with tragedy, hope, love and kindness. It takes place in Germany during Hitler’s rise to power and is narrated interestingly enough by “Death”. I really liked it!

But one that interferes with the real world because I always have to read “just one more chapter.”

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister…our book club did it last month and I barely got through it because the style of writing was really difficult for me to stick with….my mind kept wandering or I would fall asleep. Ugh.

This month we are reading, The Amateur Marriage. I just started it. We’ll see how it goes!

A book taken from the author’s journals as she companions her husband through vascular dementia.

Liked: The story, the role of faith, the sweetness of the love
story between the author and her husband.

Disliked: Style of writing is not “clean” as it is an ordinary
woman’s journal writing. The Catholic faith and its
practices which played such a strong role in the life
of the author could be a distraction to those readers
unfamiliar with them.
