I’m almost speechless at how beautifully you have written this piece, Julie. A feeling of longing for such calm overwhelmed me. I’ve been reading a book by Elizabeth George about working towards gaining a Gentle and Peaceful Spirit. It would be wonderful to study her book in such a wonderful place.
I’m busy for the rest of the day, but I’d like to try and find somewhere tomorrow where I can just sit in the car with my bible, notebook and a simple breakfast.
Life is so busy and with two family deaths in the last 8 months, serious illness affecting other family members, an unpleasant feeling of being cooped up in our home – I’m ready for open space, sunshine and peace.
However, we have had wonderful news. Louisa and her husband Steve are expecting their first baby in December. Such wonderful news, even though dear Louisa & Steve live so far away. But I intend to make lots of trips up to see them and they’re going to do the same in visiting us.

Julie, thank you for sharing all of this. The detail is incredible, and it resonates with my hermitage stays at Pacem. I always marvel at how God meets each person at Pacem in a highly individualistic way. I was really struck by the crushed head of the snake. The Scripture verse came instantly to mind. Thanks for inviting us into your intimate time with the Lord and sharing it so vividly. You certainly have a gift for writing. Just to let you know, a friend called yesterday to make a reservation. When I asked how he heard about Pacem, he mentioned your name. I laughed and told him that I had just started reading your blog, but was going to wait to finish it because I got emotional. In reading your entries, I ended up tearing up a few times. For whatever reason, the Holy Spirit brings holy tears when I feel close to God. That happened when I read your reflection. Thank you for that. Blessings. We look forward to seeing you in the fall. God-willing, we will have three new hermitages to choose from. Please pray that we will be able to raise the funds for them and that the construction goes smoothly. Peace – Tim
