How satisfying to read this update and encouragement from you, Helen. Thank you. You and I have traveled some similar roads, and I’m grateful that our paths have passed. You have impacted my life in many ways. What a gift that you and your daughter are doing so well! Lots of prayers and patience, right? I send my love to you, dear friend.

I so related to what you so beautifully wrote today. I too have lost parents and have only one brother, who lives in Canada and has cut all contact. The last time I spoke to him was the evening my mother died after I had sat with her as she passed and he had refused to come. I know there is a lot of hurt in him and many of the problems he has were set up by the way my parents behaved with him. When you make a child a victim by telling him that his failure and lack of success have been due to his hardworking older sister overshadowing him, wounds and excuses are set up that never go away. So my brother blames me for his lack of success – 40 years after we left home and went our separate ways…it’s very sad, but I have had to come to the conclusion that there is little I can do. I send cards at Christmas, no response, dealt with everything for my mother and after her death (from another country), no thanks and no appreciation. I feel a little bitter and a lot sad. But what I have learned is that we really can’t control how other people behave. All I can do is do my best, try to be kind and live my life. You can’t choose your family….On the other hand after years and years of difficult times and a terrible relationship with one of my daughters, we have turned a corner. She has lived with us for the last year because of the pandemic and has grown up and is a delight. Not one single fight in a whole year that has been difficult for her (job hunting and there are no jobs)- this has been a huge blessing and a lovely surprise. Things can change – and in the most unexpected ways!! Thinking of you over there my dear friend – and I do hope that one day we will be able to meet up for real. I wish we were a bit nearer!! Helen xx
