The About Me ABC

April 18, 2011 | My Jottings

I’ve been enjoying a blog written by a delightful woman named Helen. She’s English, is married to a Swiss man that she met in San Francisco, she speaks several languages, and they have three children and live in Switzerland. Yes I know. Switzerland! Anyway, she had an ABC list on her blog recently and anyone who knows me knows I can’t resist a list. So here is my own About Me ABC. Because, of course, it’s all about me.  **Gag**

Age: 53

Bed Size: Queen and set up very high on bed risers

Chore You Hate: Cooking — I used to love it — now I don’t

Favorite Color: Dark greens and blues

Gold or Silver: Gold

Height: 5’10″

Overnight Hospital Stays: Two baby deliveries (I had the third one at home), and a charming little surgery ending in ectomy.

Pet Peeve: Yes, I am one of those Grammar Nazis who really wish people wouldn’t use apostrophes in the wrong places. I also would like it if people would stop spelling the word congratulations “congradulations.”

Quote From a Movie: “My life is a perfect graveyard of buried hopes.” (Anne of Green Gables)

Right or Left handed: Right

Siblings: 2 older brothers — Larry and Steve

Time You Wake Up: 5:30 am, but something’s gotta change

Underwear: Yes

Veggie You Dislike: Lima beans and beets

What Makes You Run Late: Hardly anything — I often have to stop myself from being a little too early

X-Rays You Have Had: Teeth, broken fifth metatarsal, spine for chiropractic

Yummy Food You Make: Panzanella, homemade pizza, decent shredded beef tacos

Zoo Animal You Like Best: Colorful birds in the aviaries, but I’m not an avid zoo fan — they all seem so sad and well, captive

    Here are mine!

    Age: 58

Bed Size: King. Really, we just need to put two kings next to each other. Three kids, a horsedog, and two adults are too many for one.

Dogs: One giant horsedog — masquerading as a Chocolate Lab — named Rosie

Essential Start of Your Day: Coffee. Immediately. Best if brought to me in bed, really.

Favorite Color: Any kind of blue-green or green-blue. Turquoise. Teal. Jade. Emerald.

    Gold or Silver: Gold

Height: Guinness Book of World Records

Instruments You Play(ed): Piano (poorly), violin (ear-splittingly), guitar

Overnight Hospital Stays: Just one, for one night. Hopefully never again.

Pet Peeve: Twenty year old males in general. Twenty year old male hockey players specifically.

Quote From a Movie: “Boom, roasted.” (OK, it’s TV show — The Office.)

    Right or Left handed: Right

Siblings: 2 sisters. Both younger and cuter.

Time You Wake Up: It used to be 2:00 am. Now I get up at the more lazier hour of 6:30.

    Underwear: Yes

Zoo Animal You Like Best: Dolphins + polar bears. Not together.

Very funny as always! Just so people don’t take you seriously about the age thing – if I am 53, you cannot be 58. I think it’s somewhere closer to a number that starts with a 3 and ends with a 4…… 🙂

  3. Helen in Switzerland says:

    Hi Julie!
Funny – I had never imagined you being a TALL lady! And thank you so much for telling everyone about my blog – I’ll certainly know why if my stats go through the roof!
Have a great week and take care!

  4. Just Julie says:

Hi Helen, Have no fear about your stats going through the roof! I think I have a handful of readers consisting of friends and family. 🙂

Disclaimer: I deny any responsibility for eyerolling, sighing, side-stitches or disbelief which may occur as a result of reading this blog. Sarcasm and stupid answers were (not) intended, as today I am exhausted.

    It’s not a bad thing… just a warning.

  6. Just Julie says:

You and I should be The List Queens, Savannah. 🙂

  7. Larry says:

AGE – I am always one year a head – ask my wife, as the day after any birthday that I have, I will tell you I am the age of my next birthday – just as we are in the 21st century etc. thus on July 8th of this year I will be working on being 70 years of age 🙂

BED SIZE – California King, which is too hard to find sheets for. I was 6’4″ when I went into the service so due to age shrinkage, I could now get by with an enlarged queen or a king.

CHORE YOU HATE – Painting as I use to paint by the numbers via my mother’s guidance, but that is all that I could ever do, so I can’t follow trim or crown molding very well 🙂

DOGS – Best dog I ever had was a Great Dane, I called Wolf, he was a brindle as both my spelling and comas drive my sister nuts 🙁

ESSENTIAL START OF MY DAY – moving my toes and ankles and hip joints very slowly all in a slow circular motion till it no longer feels stiff 🙂

FAVORITE COLOR – any shade of green especially a deep shade of emerald green like the colors of a deep lake reflecting the glory of heaven.

GOLD OR SILVER – Gold – like the streets of my future home

INSTRUMENTS I HAVE PLAYED – Home made metal recorder that I like to sit on my front porch and play the notes of the tops of the tree line surrounding our property, a song that only my wife and daughter could explain, it is beautiful. Or so that is my opinion – any way 🙂

HEIGHT – shrinking with age – who knows what it will be tomorrow? Have not measured my self lately, but know I am a lot shorter than the age of my youth.

JOB TITLE – Box Boy, Clerk, Dept Manager, Assistant Manager, Army what ever – from private to body guard and driver for field officers, Arbitration Specialist, Field Representative, Business Agent, Secretary of the Union, President of the Union and the best one of all – “Mr. Retired”.

KIDS – To be raised and sent on with the blessings of the Lord

SIBLINGS – One brother “Steve” who I know not where he is or lives and “Julie” who I call Sis.

TIME I WAKE UP – When I get us, as it is truly “Mr. Retired” 🙂

UNDERWEAR – yes now as having children and being careful, when I was younger never

VEGGIES I DISLIKE – Lima beans, mixed veggies (anything all together), most carrots unless cooked with a lightly sprinkling of brown sugar, and green beans unless fixed by my wife or daughter

WHAT MAKES ME RUN LATE – most everything, as I am never in a hurry anymore 🙂

X-RAYS I HAVE HAD – I have had everything x-rayed at one time or another

YUMMY FOOD I MAKE – The best mac and cheese with Velveeta and covered before baking with tempura breading, but who really knows as my wife won’t let me near the kitchen as she is one of the best cooks I have ever known – PERIOD!

ZOO ANIMALS I LIKE BEST – not many if any as they are caged and it is hard to enjoy them when you compare them in the wild – in the wild, I would prefer the jungle birds with all their colors and variations of song

  8. Just Julie says:

This is one of the reasons Savannah and I like lists, Larry. You can learn so much about someone in such a short time – even your own big brother! Thank you for sharing all these – you made me smile.
